Eng 105 with Rebecca Medley

The thing i liked best about this class was that it was very relaxing for the most part and friendly. I also kind of liked that we did not have much homework for the first like almost two months. But that also goes along with what i liked least b/c since we had not started any projects or assignments until later, i felt more rushed to get them done, like i didn't have enough time. I got a little stressed but i got it done. The project that makes me most proud is probably the first assignment, the hypertext. I think i did pretty well with it knowing how difficult it could've been. I think i may also be proud with this current web argument assignment, i don know yet. Something that i will take away from this course is all of the things i learned about setting up/creating a web site and using hyper links. The biggest thing i learned about myself is that i procrastinate waayaay too much and i need to work on that. i left too much until last minute which may have costed me some points that i could've earned had i just worked on my stuff when i needed to. So that is also the thing that i would've done differently during this course. I would've worked on my stuff on time!

MY CLAIM!!!

Models face a big issue of nudity because some people find it to be inappropriate or they may find it to be art. It's up to the model to distinguish where they may lead their nudity before it becomes inappropriate or pornagraphy.

synthesis

I used to have a hard time putting my thoughts into words verbally. It was also a little difficult to do it on paper as well, but I have definitely improved on that this past year. It is a lot easier now for me to write what I want to say and have it sound the way I want it to. I find it to be way easier to write creatively than academically. I like just writing about whatever comes to mind, with no specific topic at hand. Academically needs research and back up information. It’s less creative. Usually before I start writing something academically I picture what I want it to look like or sound like. I think of how I want it to flow. Usually it comes together the way i want, sometimes it doesn’t. That is another issue with writing academically; I get disappointed when it doesn’t turn out the way I intended it to. This relates to the multi modal texts because I really have to think about how I want it all layed out and what branches off where. It’s like drawing a map for the MM.

Reflections

While writing my informative multi modal, the audience I had in mind were people who are into pop-culture and are fans of celebrities. People that may either agree that celebs are being portrayed wrong or people who disagree and believe what they see and hear about famous people. My purpose for writing this is to inform people of the truth.

I am most proud of the layout and the way it flows and links together pretty well. I like my choice of colors and I think my title is pretty clever. I don’t know what I would change because I don’t have that greater technical knowledge, so I don’t know what I would be able to do in order to make it better. That’s probably not that great of an answer, but we were taught pretty much the basics of we needed and could use. I don’t know the program enough to say what I could use to improve. I think what I learned was enough for now.

Honestly, no I did not allot enough time for this. I procrastinated, a lot! I know that’s bad, but I had little motivation to do this, so it ended up coming together at the very last minute, as much of my work does. But I think I put it together pretty well and I did basically what I wanted to do. I made my point and it makes sense. My research was a little hard. I did not really know what I was looking for at first, but then once I figured out what I was trying to say, it became easier to find things and narrow it down. I probably needed more research though.

"according to my Research..."

I am really not a fan of research. Call me lazy, but i just always felt like it was soo much work that i never wanted to do. Even looking up the correct spelling of a word in the dictionary was a hassle. But i think i've gotten better at it and used to it since i have to do a lot more lately. I had to do a lot of research for my speech class and eng 104 last semester. after a while i get lost in all of the research and i get deeper and deeper in all of this interesting infirmation. Then i realize that i am in overload and need to step back and look at everything i just read and try and break it down. Then there are times where i probably don't do enough research and i feel behind or in lack of info.
MLA format is more detailed than APA. i think MLA is mainly used for english and liberal arts references and APA is more for social science references. We give attribution to the original authors in our text to show that it was already from somewhere else. We did not steal it. I guess it's to give the credit to the person who actually said or wrote it. Other wise that is called plagiarism. We use other peoples's words to back up our own information. Also to back up the point we are trying make. if we have another reliable source or a person with authority then what we are saying is more beleiveable.

*in case you were wondering about my title: the word "research" always reminds me of the Magic School Bus. i used to watch that a lot when i was little. but in every episode Dorothy Ann would always be like "According to my research..." and would just whip out a book from nowhere! ha i miss that show. oh and Mrs. Medley could totally be Ms. frizzle b/c of her curly red hair! :)

Classic Moments

I chose the Life Magazine cover of the couple kissing in the street as everyone watches and laughs or gasps of shock. My first reaction was that "awe, this is cute. They definitely love each other!" They don't seem to care at all that many people around them are watching. It's almost as if they did it to make a point. He is probably leaving for over seas and they are going to miss each other. like if the person i love kissed me like that when they were about to leave, i wouldn't care where or when it was or who was watching. I would want everybody to see how much i loved him and how much he loved me because that is all that would matter. The thing that caught my eye first was that it is in black and white and very old fashioned, which i love! but after looking at the picture i like the pose. The way he is holding her so tight is pretty romantic. They are right in the middle of the street and you look behind them and see that there are hundreds of people behind them walking down the street. I love that there are a few guys smiling behind them to the left as if they are cheering for the guy. Then to the right is a group of women looking like "omg, can they do that!? i wish that were me!" ha It's such a contrast of emotions. It definitely shows the rhetorical device pathos. There are all kind of emotions in the picture. Looking at it makes you feel for them or makes you want to be a part of it. It shows logos because it's a pretty simple picture to understand and interpret. I guess it could also be showing ethos because they were not allowed to kiss or show affection openly like that. Yet, there they are without a care for everyone to see. Which may make other couples want to do the same thing. I think this image was chosen for the Life Magazine cover because it shows innocent love with some rebellion before the men leave. Like it's some love craze and it shocked a lot of people. It's a "classic moment" to catch as it says on the cover.

Technologic

First of all, like i said before, we are so spoiled and don't even think twice about it! Technolgy is basically anything that has been made to help make things easier. Technology was said to be the process of creating things to meet our needs and wants. But what defines the great line between "need" and "want"? Things start to intertwine when you get too detailed. Our needs/necessities are food, air and water, right!? Air is a free-be, but food and water are where things become difficult. We have so many choices of food. We want Edwardo's, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Subway, Olive Garden, home made food...and anything else we like/want, whatever gives our taste buds satisfaction. And then Water...why are there so many different types of bottled water? We have faucet water for free, that is clean! What's better? Aquafina or Ice Mountain? Fiji or DejaBlue? Nestle or Meijer brand? Water is water! it tastes good as long as it is cold. So why am i rambling on about this stuff? Where am i going? Well these choices were made by people who decided to make things more interesting by the process of technology. The places were built in order to make your food and bottle your faucet water from somewhere else. Besides these basic necessities, comes everything else we "want", not "need". We get the electronics that we call "technology", we get amusement parks, water parks, movie theatres (with movies of course), record players which evolved into iPods, bikes which evoled into motorcycles and buggies which turned into cars, paintings turned into photographs (b/c cameras were created), needles and thread were made into a sewing machine... Everything in our life was first something simple.Engineers, scientists and construction has helped create these things through out the years. So technology has definitely impacted my life. Unless you live in a third-world country, your choices are endless. From the second i wake up to the second i go to sleep, technolgy is inloved. I wake up to an alarm clock, i shower with running water, cook my food in a toaster or microwave, i get to school and back home by a car, i eat food from a refrigerator and use a stove, i decide what entertainment i want, which then leads me into a break down of all these things and things in between. I listen to music pretty much all day from a CD, ipod, tape player, radio, music videos on TV or online, which were created through technology. I play video games, i communicate with a phone, i wear different clothes that were designed and manufactured. Take a look around your house and think where they came from, how were they made, what would be there had that thing not existed. Why do we need anything, what is it worth? It is worth a short amount of our attention and gives us a certain amount of pleasure before we move onto the next thing. So again, where is your line between "need" and "want"?

(!: Mrs. Medley, i think i turned this into an exploratoty essay on accident!)
