I chose the Life Magazine cover of the couple kissing in the street as everyone watches and laughs or gasps of shock. My first reaction was that "awe, this is cute. They definitely love each other!" They don't seem to care at all that many people around them are watching. It's almost as if they did it to make a point. He is probably leaving for over seas and they are going to miss each other. like if the person i love kissed me like that when they were about to leave, i wouldn't care where or when it was or who was watching. I would want everybody to see how much i loved him and how much he loved me because that is all that would matter. The thing that caught my eye first was that it is in black and white and very old fashioned, which i love! but after looking at the picture i like the pose. The way he is holding her so tight is pretty romantic. They are right in the middle of the street and you look behind them and see that there are hundreds of people behind them walking down the street. I love that there are a few guys smiling behind them to the left as if they are cheering for the guy. Then to the right is a group of women looking like "omg, can they do that!? i wish that were me!" ha It's such a contrast of emotions. It definitely shows the rhetorical device pathos. There are all kind of emotions in the picture. Looking at it makes you feel for them or makes you want to be a part of it. It shows logos because it's a pretty simple picture to understand and interpret. I guess it could also be showing ethos because they were not allowed to kiss or show affection openly like that. Yet, there they are without a care for everyone to see. Which may make other couples want to do the same thing. I think this image was chosen for the Life Magazine cover because it shows innocent love with some rebellion before the men leave. Like it's some love craze and it shocked a lot of people. It's a "classic moment" to catch as it says on the cover.

This is such a popular photo and a part of American culture. I made the same observation on another blog, but did you know these two people did not know each other? The soldier grabbed the first woman he saw! Recently, I found out that these two people were reunited on the 50th annivesary of D-Day.
what!? they just randomly kissed! okay, that probably makes the photo even better! it looks like there was so much passion b/ween them. i love it!
Yes, it is very famous. It was just after the victory of World War2. After hearing the news, the two strangers just kissed each other. It is a kind of crazy, but it indicted that the world was filled of peace and love again. It did not only show how romantic Americans are, but also how they love peace so much.

People love peace; they use a passion way to express their emotion. In these years, many people get together in the square that day and kiss with others in order to remember that great moment.

Bevertheless, I think you made a mistake. People who are kissing in this picture are not a couple. On the contrary, they are totally strangers! That is even precious. It shows how happy the soldier was for celerbrating the end of the war. The woman, who was a nurse, was so surpried. I admire the photographer very much. He recorded the most exciting moment that time!
I think this photo is probably the most famous Life Magazine cover ever made. Most people do think the sailor and the nurse were a couple! I only know because I remember reading about the 50th anniversary of this photo, and it was talked about.
ok, so obviously i did not know the history of this photo, as many of you proved. i just tried to interpret it the way i saw it and what i think about it. i still love it, my perception has just changed. and i do like the fact that it is 2 strangers kissing in the heat of the moment and of excitement! it makes it so much more special and classic.
